There are times when children and young people may run into difficulties that are not easily sorted out especially if not dealt with at an early stage. Having some help at the right time can make all the difference.

Therapy can help with:

  • Bereavement
  • Bullying
  • Parents separating or divorcing
  • Effects of trauma
  • Anxiety
  • Coping with illness or health problems
  • Unhappiness and depression
  • Difficulty making friends
  • Relationships, gender identity and sexuality
  • Lack of confidence
  • Low self-esteem

Therapy helps people to identify and express feelings that may have been bottled up or which have become very difficult to deal with. Once time has been given to exploring these, it becomes possible to think about the way forward.

How I work

Therapy provides a safe space to explore issues that might be troubling someone. The relationship between the therapist and the client is at the heart of this process. I use various ways of working with children or young people: play, art, drama, music, sand tray and talking. These offer a variety of ways of expressing thoughts, worries, feelings and of working with them. The aim is to help children or young people to find their own solutions and ways of coping with their situation.

How it works

After a period of assessment, which may also involve meeting a child’s parent or carer, I will usually meet with a child or young person for 50 minutes once a week. I generally work without a fixed time limit but with regular reviews as to whether the therapy is being helpful.

Confidentiality

Confidentiality is a very important part of the therapeutic process and it will be respected at all times, apart from exceptional circumstances, for example if there is reason to believe that the child is at risk of significant harm. I will give more information at the first appointment.

What it costs

My fee is £60 per session. A session lasts approximately 50 minutes. The initial meeting with parents or carers is normally for an hour and a half and my fee for this is £90. A reduced fee may be available for parents or carers in receipt of benefits or otherwise on a low income.
