I am a highly experienced UKCP-Registered Integrative Child Psychotherapist and BACP-Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist based in Hove.

What I offer

  • Parent/Carer Consultations
  • Clinical Supervision to Counsellors and Psychotherapists working with children and adolescents
  • Professional Consultation to schools, health and welfare services for young people

Issues that therapy can help with include:

There are times when children and young people run into difficulties that are not easily sorted out especially if not dealt with at an early stage. Having some help at the right time can make all the difference.

  • Anxiety,
  • School stress,
  • Relationship difficulties,
  • Questions about gender identity or sexuality,
  • Worries related to neurodivergence,
  • Efects of trauma (including developmental trauma),
  • Unhappiness and depression,
  • Low self-esteem,
  • Distress related to family upset and bereavement,
  • Coping with illness or health problems,
  • Lack of confidence.

How I work

Therapy provides a safe space to explore issues that might be troubling someone. The relationship between the therapist and the client is at the heart of this process. I use various ways of working with children or young people: play, art, drama, music, sand tray and talking. These offer a variety of ways of expressing thoughts, worries, feelings and of working with them. The aim is to help children or young people to find their own solutions and ways of coping with their situation.

How it works

After a period of assessment, which usually involves meeting a child or young person’s parent or carer, I will usually meet with a child or young person for 50 minutes once a week. I generally work without a fixed time limit but with regular reviews as to whether the therapy is being helpful.

Confidentiality

Confidentiality is a very important part of the therapeutic process and it will be respected at all times, apart from very exceptional circumstances, for example if there is reason to believe that the child or young person is at risk of significant harm. I will give more information about this issue at the first appointment.

Parent/Carer Consultation

We’ve all been children and part of a family, no matter what kind of family it is, whether living all together or dispersed. Children, parents, grandparents and other relatives are all members of our families as are stepchildren or stepparents.

About Me

My Hove-based practice is within easy reach of most of Sussex, including Brighton, Worthing, Lewes, Eastbourne and beyond.

I have been working therapeutically with children and adolescents (including young adults) and their parents and carers since 2005.

I have CAMHS experience (including working for a specialist service with children in care) and have worked in primary and secondary schools.

Since 2011, I have also been a Clinical Supervisor, supporting qualified and trainee Counsellors and Psychotherapists working with children and adolescents.

Therapy helps people to identify and express feelings that may have been bottled up or which have become very difficult to deal with. Once time has been given to exploring these, it becomes possible to think about the way forward.
